COSATU slams Metrorail plans

COSATU in the Western Cape on Monday called on Metrorail to shelve its plans to temporarily halt some services.

Metrorail started cutting back on its services on Sunday to allow for maintenance and repairs to some of its rolling stock.

This meant off-peak trips would be decreased by about 10 percent during the week and by more than 25 percent over weekends, until early next year.

“We know that there have been incidents in the past where Metrorail has taken trains from the system, promising they would be put back but we never got them back,” said COSATU’s Mike Louw.

Metrorail declined to comment.
