To support our development, we are looking for an:

INT. HARDWARE DESIGNER (6 Month Assignment)
Reports to: Manager, Hardware Design
Based in Toronto

To design new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilising processes based on established engineering principles to meet requirements. Involved with designs of difficult complexity.

Your main responsibilities are:

MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Short term planning of all assigned tasks assigned - understanding requirements, compliance to cost and schedule, managing issues and risks,
Carrying out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision.
Ensuring that work is carried out to proper process as governed by Work Instructions and the QMS requirements.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Able to Interprete Customer System and Functional Specifications and translate into testable, clear, and understandable hardware requirements.
Prepare Hardware Requirement documents using DOORs application and support in a multi-functional/stakeholder environment.
Intimately knowledgeable of digital and analog designs. Is able to execute and review designs of simple to complex nature.
Being proficient with the use of development tools - schematic capture (OrCad), circuit simulation (PSpice),
Experienced with programmable development (FPGA, CPLD). Able to perform engineering development and review technically in detail other engineers development.
Excels at technical writing. Is able to create accurate, logical, systematic, and complete design descriptions, test reports, requirements, specifications, etc.
Knowledge of CENELEC and other Railway specifications significant but not required.
Is able to consider hardware failure modes and system safety aspects in every facet of the design.
Experienced in hardware development from requirements to manufacture.
Contributes to the implementation of electrical designs. Works with mechanical engineering, industrialization, and compliance to ensure that designs can be efficiently manufactured, tested, and deployed.
Intimately understands and utilizes proper engineering change control.
Knows configuration control principals and adheres to them

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS
Well developed verbal skills to interact effectively and professionally in a variety of forums,
Well developed writing skills to prepare effective documents, work packages, etc. in a clear and concise format
The ability to present the departments position and effectively represent its interests.
Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization.

SOFT SKILLS
Promoting a harmonious working relationship among group members
Being a mentor to junior members of the department
Maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others.

APTITUDE
Locating and researching source information for design activities, extracting the pertinent data, and using it to provide recommendations,
Making timely decisions, both independently and in concert with other, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors.
Identifying any problems or inefficiencies in the departments operation and suggesting improvements.
Demonstrate a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems.
Demonstrating an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective designs for products and processes.

Ideally you have:

Ø Recognized Engineering degree,
Ø 8 - 10 years related work experience
Ø Computer literate with knowledge of development tools such as a Parts List system (SAP), a Configuration Management tool (DDTS) and the Micro-soft Office suite,
Ø Good interpersonal and technical writing skills.
Ø Proven ability to work within a proposal team
