Position Summary
This is an opportunity to join our dynamic and growing Northwest Business Unit as the senior executive responsible for leading our Western Canada operation. Based in our Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB office, the position will define and lead growth strategies, acquisition strategies, and align the operations of multiple offices under a common plan. Initial focus will capitalize on envisioned mining, oil and gas, power, and transportation infrastructure business opportunities. The objectives of our Western Canada Initiative are:

• Establish a presence in Western Canada that is similar to our presence in the U.S.
• Achieve a top 10 position in Western Canada within the next 5 years.
• Achieve a significant “step change” in our current oil & gas market position.
• Achieve a significant “step change” in our current mining market position.

Our Canada growth plan is a top corporate initiative. Consequently, the successful candidate will enjoy the full support of corporate and regional resources through a committed team environment. This position will report to the Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for the Pacific Northwest and will also develop a close working relationship with various Business Line Directors as well as our corporate management. It will be important to leverage these relationships to expand new business opportunities, sell our full range of services, and to mobilize company resources to effect the desired growth.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the senior executive for Western Canada, the successful candidate will be responsible for all operations, business development, financial performance, quality control, and client satisfaction. General duties will include:

• Represent URS’ interests in Western Canada.
• Lead our Western Canada initiative in close collaboration with URS senior management.
• Build a strong and diversified leadership team to offer our clients URS’ full suite of services.
• Align Western Canada offices and resources under a common vision to effect the desired performance and growth.
• Lead our business and growth strategies in Western Canada.
• Develop and bring new client accounts to URS to increase top line sales growth.
• Lead regional acquisition strategies through close coordination with corporate Vice President of M&A, Regional Business Unit Manager and Business Line Directors.
• Lead the daily operations, particularly from a profit and loss perspective.

Ideal Candidate Requirements/Attributes
The successful candidate is a proven leader with a track record in growing business by identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to increase revenue growth, expand market penetration, and successfully managing operations. Preferences include:

• A recognized industry leader in Oil & Gas or Mining market sectors.
• A strong understanding of the Western Canada market.
• Relative business experience in Western Canada, with a preference in Oil & Gas or Mining market sectors. Minimum 10 years principal level experience.
• Relative business experience in the engineering consulting industry, particularly managing a regional operation and PNL.
• Strong communications skills and an ability to interface with personnel at all levels – internally and externally.
• An executive presence, yet be approachable and comfortable in an “open door” culture.
• A strong work ethic and the ability to set and achieve personal and organizational goals within a culturally dynamic and tradition rich environment.
• A Bachelor’s degree is required, with strong preference given to an advanced degree.
• Must have experience utilizing legal, marketing, finance and human resource functions in support of operations.
