Job Description
Description: OVERHEAD SPECIALIST - ENGINEERING GROUP - TRANSIT CITY DEPARTMENT Reporting to the Head - Traction Power, you are responsible for developing program design standards for the overhead contact system to be implemented on the TTCs Transit City LRT program. Your responsibilities include; developing program design and performance standards for the overhead traction power systems for the Transit City program; ensuring program standards are coordinated with individual projects; analyzing the operating and maintenance implications of alternative system components; developing standard and directive drawings to implement the recommended overhead contact systems; reviewing the technical design submissions by consultants and/or design build consortiums; assisting in the procurement of overhead contact system components purchased in bulk; working cooperatively with counterparts in other TTC Departments and representing the Transit City program on all technical matters related to your expertise. You are responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (if applicable and within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer. Requirements: You are require in depth knowledge of the engineering principles, practices and methods related to state of the art of overhead contact systems used in North American LRT transit systems that are comparable to Transit City. Requires extensive experience in developing design and performance standards for the design, construction and testing/commission of overhead contact systems for rail transit operated at more than 70kph; must possess sound analytical, technical and problem solving skills. These skills/experience would normally be acquired through at least 20 years experience in the design/maintenance of OCS systems in urban transit applications. A College (CET) designation would be an asset as would project management experience. Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
